Writing a book about the influence of sport on culture during the ongoing, seismic global shift in the recognition of marginalized identities has not been an easy endeavor. Just this week, as we worked to finalize this book, the Texas Legislature passed yet another bill (H.R. 25, 2021) effectively banning trans athletes from participating on sports teams that do not match their assigned sex at birth, going so far as not accepting birth certificates that have been legally amended.
